Heart Pockets
By Judi Kauffman
|
Laminated heart-shape pockets are perfect for Valentine’s Day and bridal showers, for springtime and Easter, or any time you want to present a gift or stash a special bit of memorabilia. Since paper doilies are fragile and tear easily, laminating them makes these pockets sturdy and long lasting.
TIP: Choose other shapes, colors, and styles of doilies to make pockets for Halloween or Christmas, or other events and holidays.
Materials:
- 2 paper doilies (same size and shape)
- Banner American laminating pouch or pouches large enough to accommodate the doilies
- QuikFinish laminating machine
- Wire edge ribbon
- Metallic braid
- 1/16” and 1/8” hole punches
- Tapestry needle (for sewn-edge pockets)
Instructions:
| Step
1: |
Laminate the two doilies and cut them out leaving a thin border (approximately 1/16”) on all edges.
|
| Step
2: |
For the pocket with a sewn edge: Punch 1/16” holes where there are holes in the lacy border of the doily, starting and stopping at the widest part of the heart. Thread metallic braid in tapestry needle and use an overcast (shown) or running stitch to sew the doilies together. Sew or glue wire edge ribbon bows and a hanging loop as shown in photo.

3: |
For the pocket with tied edges: Punch 1/8” holes at the bottom tip and at the widest part of the heart. Tie with wire edge ribbon as shown in photo. Add hanging loop.

Fill the pockets with dried or silk flowers, memorabilia, candies, a small gift, or whatever you choose.
