Snowman Garland
By Judi Kauffman
Project of the Month, Decemeber 2006

Celebrate winter and the holidays with a garland of smiling snowmen wearing ribbon scarves! This is a very easy project. Your garland can be as long as you want. Simply keep making more snowmen till it reaches across the room or mantel or door or wherever you plan to display it.

This garland starts with die cut card stock, but you can draw or cut out your own snowmen, too. Because they are die cut, all of the snowmen are the same size, but you can vary them as you like.

Materials:

  • Banner American QuikFinish Laminating Machine

  • Laminating pouches that fit the snowmen (shown: one 8.5" x 11" pouch per figure, with enough space left in the pouch for a bookmark or gift tags)

  • AccuCut die "CAC Stuffin's"

  • Card stock, one 8.5" x 11" sheet per snowman

  • Markers

  • Snowflake shape sequins (Sulyn Industries)

  • Acrylic alphabet stickers (Sulyn Industries)

  • Brass brads

  • Awl or eighth inch round hole punch

  • Red, gold and white ribbon (5/8" wide or to fit your snowmen)

  • Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Die cut as many snowmen as you will need for your garland.

Step 2: Color the carrot nose, eyes, buttons, and around the mittens on each one with markers.

Step 3: Laminate the snowmen.
Reminder: There is space in the laminating pouch for a bookmark or gift tags, so have other small items ready to laminate while you're at it!

Step 4: Cut around the snowmen leaving a narrow clear border on all sides. Cut a little closer at the neck.

Step 5: Tie ribbon scarves onto each snowman.

Step 6: To link the snowmen:
If using an awl, overlap the hands and pierce a hole through both layers.
If using a punch, make a hole in one hand, then mark the spot on the second where the two should line up and punch at the mark.
Add a snowflake and a brad to join the snowmen. At the beginning and end of the garland, add a snowflake, brad, and an 18" piece of ribbon. Use the ribbons for decoration, or to tie the garland to a hook or branch (depending on where and how you plan to display it).
